What is Live Scan Fingerprinting and Why Do I Need a Live Scan?

Before we dive into the Live Scan process and its uses, let's take a brief look at what a Live Scan is ...

Live Scan Fingerprinting Services

Live Scan fingerprinting is an inkless electronic fingerprinting process that scans your fingerprints directly into a computer system to determine who you are so that a background check can be completed.

First, the requesting agency—your employer, certifying body or the government—provides you with a Request for Live Scan Service Form. You will need to fill out the form completely. You'll then take the form, along with a primary form of identification like a driver's license or California ID to our location to get fingerprinted via Live Scan.

We then send your Live Scan information to the Department of Justice (DOJ), FBI or both to be processed. The DOJ will then send your results to the requesting agency ONLY.

Who Needs Live Scan Fingerprinting?

No two people have matching fingerprints, so your fingerprints are used to identify any criminal actions, history reports and more.

Increasingly, employers are requiring some form of pre-employment background check. In some cases, Live Scan fingerprinting is required before starting a formal work engagement. Some of the industries and jobs that require Live Scan fingerprinting include anyone who works in schools, foster care, contractors, lawyers, doctors, notaries and much more.
